YURI VASSILIEV «RUSSIAN RED SEGMENTS»
15-25 May 2010 in the «Arka» (Arc) gallery (Vladivostok) the Kaliningrad Branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts presented the «Russian Red» project by Yuri Vassiliev.
The artist handles with one of the most well-spread stereotypes of collective consciousness, related to perception of image and the history of Russia in the 20th century, both mythological and ideological – totality of red. The project is a free unfinished sequence of motives and several exhibitions of the author, brought together by the common motto, theme and some structural and technical issues.
The exposition of the project in the «Arka» gallery consisted of photographic series «RUSSIAN RED SEGMENTS» together with the «Narcissus» video. Also a presentation of the «Our Father» video installation by Yuri Vassiliev was held in the frames of the International Museum Night, on the 15th of May.
The «Russian Red» project has been carried out since 2001 and was presented at more than 50 Russian and international exhibitions.
Yuri Vassiliev was born in 1950 in Kingisepp, Russia.
In 1974 he graduated from the Leningrad Art School of Serov.
Honored artist of Russia.
